I really planned to go to THE ARENA to watch this exciting match finale of Round One in the UAAP Season 75 Women’s Volleyball but when I saw the news on TV that the arena was filled with almost 8,000 spectators, I decided to watch it via live streaming.
Last season, these two teams competed for the best of three in the FINALS wherein the Lady Spikers of De La Salle University defeated the Lady Eagles of Ateneo De Manila University, 2-1.
During the opening game, the Eagles outsmarted the Lady Tamaraws of Far Eastern University in a 5-setter and the Spikers were outdueled by the Lady Tigresses of University of Sto. Tomas in a 5-setter, too. Both the Tigresses and Tamaraws bowed the Eagles which made them the leading team with a 6-0 standing.Consequently, the Lady Tamaraws surrendered to the Lady Spikers which placed them in 5-1.
It was only today that these squads faced each other. I really put on my beautiful headset and with full screen mode while watching this via live streaming.
The first set was so tough. The DLSU squad led first by four points but the ADMU squad made their run to tie the Lady Spikers. Both of them reached 24-24 but finally the Lady Eagles sealed the first set, 28-26.
The second set was the same scenario. The Lady Spikers were into the lead but the Lady Eagles spread their wings and ended the set 25-21.
Alyssa Valdez and Fille Cainglet from the Ateneo Lady Eagles were the scoring machines against the La Salle Lady Spikers who really had their unforced errors throughout the first two sets.
It wasn’t the usual DLSU Spikers I saw inside the court. They have superb attackers and blockers. DLSU is known for their massive blocks.
But as the saying goes “BILOG ANG BOLA” (literally A BALL IS ROUND), it was proven in the next set. It was in the third set, when the Lady Spikers came back and found their momentum. They were so coordinated inside the court. They diminished their unforced errors and closed the set, 25-13. This was their biggest lead throughout the game.
The fourth set was so tough. Both teams got tied of their scores. Then they got a see-saw of points. I was thinking that the Lady Eagles were ready to nail down the Lady Spikers. However, Fille Cainglet was injured . She rolled out her ankle. So, the DLSU squad went ahead 25-21 and ended this set.
Much of my excitement was during the deciding set, 5th set. 😀 The Lady Spikers got an early lead, 5-2 but the Lady Eagles did their job as Coach Roger Gorayeb told his players to attack in the open. Attacks here and there…blocks here and there from both teams but the Lady Spikers went ahead for a match point and ended 15-13.
