It’s kinda sad! The journey has ended for the Lady Knights of Colegio San Juan de Letran. The team is leaving the Shakey’s V-League Portal after their match with the Lady Tigresses of University of Sto. Tomas last Thursday, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20.
Despite their effort to win a game, it didn’t happen. What’s wrong?
Their guest player, Pacharee Samuang from Thailand didn’t have much power to bring her team in a winning moment.
The green squad from Dasmarinas, Cavite won against the veteran team San Sebastian College in 3 straight sets last Sunday, 25-20, 25-17, 29-27 at the close of elimination round of the Shakey’s V-League Season 10.
Iari Yongco fired 14 hits from the Lady Patriots and Mariel Desengano unloaded 10 points, together with guest player, Monique Tiangco.
The Thai reinforcer of Lady Stags, Jeng Bualee, did not have enough juice to outsmart the massive blocks from De La Salle – Dasma. She scored 22 points but the team fell to a 1-3 standing.

What a match! It was a very exciting game between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Altas! I thought Lady Bulldogs would nail the Altas in 3 straight sets! But the latter bounced back in the third and fourth sets which forced into a decider, 5th set.
Of course, the Santiago sisters (Dindin and Jaja) were unstoppable during the first two sets! The match ended, 25-13.
The unforced errors were evident from the Lady Altas in the first set! The second set was taken again by the Bulldogs, 25-21.
During the 3rd set, the Altas fought hard and sealed the set, 25-23. The NU squad was frustrated because it would go to an extended set. The 4ths et was so tight until the Altas took it, 26-24. It was in the 5th set where Dindin Santiago and Myla Pablo combined their powerful spikes and ended the match, 15-8.
Dindin Santiago was chosen “Player of the Game” with 36 points.
After its premiere in the Final 4 of the UAAP Season 75, National University became a strong squad in Philippine volleyball. It continues to the Shakey’s V-League as it continues to win its matches.
The team defeated three squads, all of them are in 4 sets, Lady Chiefs of Arellano University (3-1) 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20,
the Lady Falcons of Adamson University (3-1) 16-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15, and the Lady Warriors of University of San Carlos
(3-1) 23-25, 52-17,25-10,25-20.
I strongly believe that CEBU is the “Queen City of the South”. But I’m not sure of what I’ve read that it’s the “Volleyball Capital of the Philippines”. Once there was a story told that Cebu was pushed to be the capital of Philippine volleyball. However, during the Shakey’s V-League, there are many Visayan teams who made their debut to play this prestigious volleyball league. As far as I remember, Southwestern University (Cebu) joined last year and University of St. LaSalle (Bacolod, another city in the Visayas region). These teams were skillful enough to play against the teams in the NCR (National Capital Region). St. LaSalle even grabbed the bronze medal last Season 8 Open Conference defeating National University.
And now, another budding team from the Visayas, Lady Warriors of University of San Carlos. I visited this university last 2011 when I had my 3-day vacation in Cebu. It’s so nice to see them playing. The players are still adjusting the court’s ambiance inside the Flying V Arena. It’s a very young team yet it has what it takes to spike that Mikasa ball. Good luck ladies!
