It was a victorious match between the RC Cola and EST Cola as they clashed yesterday at the San Juan Arena for the Finals of the Philippine Super Liga (PSL) Invitational League 2016. The former won in four sets, (3-1), 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 25-23.

After winning two games in a round robin platform, two teams prevailed to be undefeated. The RC Cola of the Philippines and the EST Cola of Thailand clashed in the Finals of the Philippine Super Liga 2016 Invitational League.
In the opening set, both teams showed great offense and defense above the net and showed see-saw of scores but after some unforced errors made by EST Cola spikers, they were behind of two points, 25-23, and the RC Cola won the set.
The same thing happened in the 2nd set but the Philippine squad found a better way to end the set, 25-23, and left the Thai team two sets to none.

However, the 3rd set favored with the Thai volleybelles as they trounced the Filipino spikers with powerful spikes and solid blocks and sealed the set, 14-25.
The Philippine team came back into its rhythm in the 4th set as they tried to end the match against the Thai squad. The same scenario happened as they enjoyed the see saw of scores but Jovelyn Gonzaga of the RC Cola finished the match with a great kill, 25-23.
It was really a great comeback for the Philippine team after a defeat in Thailand two weeks ago during the Thai-Denmark Volleyball League.
One of the promising volleyball players in the Philippines today is Alyssa Daphne Santiago aka “Jaja” from the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs.
Jaja is the sister of the former NU Opposite Spiker, Aleona Denise “Dindin” Santiago who started her collegiate volleyball career in the UAAP from the University of Sto. Tomas (UST).
She is currently playing in the UAAP and a member of Foto Toplanders which won the Philippine Super Liga Grand Prix last December 2015 and will represent the country for the Asian Club Women’s Championship in Thailand in September this year.
The Thailand squad, EST Cola outscored F2 Logistics of the Philippines in straight sets yesterday (3-0), 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 at the San Juan Arena in San Juan City of the on-going Philippines Super Liga (PSL) Invitational League 2016.

Who says that “13” is an unlucky number? Believe it or not, the Russians claimed their 13th title in the European Volleyball Championship.
What an amazing performance for the 2012 Olympic Champ, RUSSIA, in the 2013 Men’s European Volleyball Championship. The powerful Russians outsmarted the Italians in an exciting 4 sets, (3-1) – 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17.
During this tournament, the Italians are showing their massive blocks above the net and very evident during their match against Bulgaria in the semifinals. However, the Russians have planned enough to destroy those blocks and were able to capitalize their play and dominated the opening and second sets of the match.
But the Italians fought back in the 3rd set (21-25) with their open hits and unforced errors from the Russian squad. This upset the Euro champ and went in shape of their game in the 4th set. Dmitriy Muserskiy, led his team with his unstoppable quick and middle attacks. No wonder, he was chosen MVP of the tournament. 🙂

Belgium has its debut for this year in the European League 2013. Fortunately, they marched into the big Final Four. Likewise, the Belgians outsmarted the Romanians in 3 straight sets, (3-0), 21-16, 22-20, 21-15.
In the opening set, both teams were determined to outscore the other and tied at 6-6. But the Belgians managed to widen the gap of 5 point advantage when Els Vandesteene was behind the service line. But Romania narrowed the gap, 12-11. The Belgians were alarmed and made better reception and continued to seal the set, 21-16.
The second set favored the Romanians at first and left the Belgians, 19-12. With determination, Belgium managed to make their run and turned things around, 22-20 to end the set.
The Belgians controlled the 3rd set dominantly and the Romanians gradually bowed down. Nina Coolman ended the set with an ace and sealed the match, 21-15.
It was a very lucky night for the Belgians. They have what it takes to win in the European league. Tomorrow, they’ll face Germany for the gold medal match.

Japan is Korea’s biggest rival in volleyball. But the Koreans upset the Japanese in 4 sets, (3-1), 25-22, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 in Hwasung South Korea.
During the first two sets, the Koreans didn’t allow the Japanese to make their run and they dominated all throughout the game. But the Japanese adjusted in the third set especially in their attacks and gave Tatsuya Fukuzawa. Moon got a knee injury and was replaced by Jeon Kwang-in. Japan capitalized the absence of Moon Despite the effort of Park Chul-Woo and Moon Sung-min, Japan went ahead, 25-21.
Jeon stepped up in the fourth set and showcased his unstoppable spikes above the net. Great quick plays from the setter, Han Sun Woo and sealed the match, 25-19.
The Olympic champ, Brazil, outsmarted the young Russian team in 3 straight sets, (3-0), 25-23, 25-23,25-22 during their final match in Montreux Volley Masters 2013 in Switzerland. What a game for the Brazilians!
It was a series of see-saw scores in the second set with the superb Russian blocks but Fe Garay of Brazil was really unstoppable and led her team to go ahead, 25-23.
The third set, chance of Russia to bounce back, however, Brazil started well. But the Russians didn’t stop to tail the Olympic champ. Because of Brazil’s persistence to close the match, they sealed it at 25-22 with a cross-court hit.
However, it can be noticed that the Russians didn’t give in easily against the strong Brazilians.
