IRAN, the defending champion, was able to outscore SOUTH KOREA during their final match in the 2013 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship. The exciting match wowed the crowd with a wild excitement from them inside the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Iranians won in straight sets, (3-0), 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 against the Koreans. This would be the second gold medal for them after they won in 2011. Despite the effort of the Koreans to maintain their A-game, that wasn’t enough to clobber the powerful Iranians. In the 1st set, the two squads were very aggressive to win points in every attack they have above the net. It was very clear that the Koreans were showing their fast play but not enough with the better defense of the Iranian libero, Frahad Zarif. In the second set, it was actually favorable with the Koreans when they led the score 21-18, but their unforced errors in terms of reception helped the Iranians to tie at 21 all. Fortunately, Iran sealed the set 25-22. Proving their determination to steal a set , the Koreans wanted to extend the match but not in the right time when the Iranians displayed their best game and easily subdued the Koreans in 25-19.
The Koreans bagged the silver medal this year, an improvement compared last 2011 where they placed 4th behind Japan. Congratulations! This is Asian volleyball! 🙂
